10 Ways to Avoid Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is a very reasonable option for those in debt. If you have to file, the rewards can be life changing. But it's not free, has some risks, does take time, and can be avoided. If you feel filing bankruptcy is your best option, consult with a professional, experienced bankruptcy lawyer.

There are many ways to avoid bankruptcy in the first place.

Your Credit Balance Don't buy items you can't afford. Well, that's obvious. But sometimes you get a bonus at work or you see a good deal and bite. If you can keep your credit balance paid, you can buy higher priced items given time. But if sometimes you can only pay on the interest, you should stop buying.

New Credit Cards We all get the nice letters in the mail promising low interest rates and frequent flyer miles and other perks. However, shred every new credit card you get. Yes, shred them. If you have one or two credit cards, that is enough.

Your Budget If you have a family, making a budget is easy, but following it can be tough. If you are an individual, you might not spend the time to create a budget at all. Write down a budget, on real paper (if not your computer), and stick to it for as long as possible. This will pay off in the long run.

Buying a Home If you buy a home, just like a car, you might go for looks and appeal. If you have a large family, for example, you might want a home instead of an apartment. But stay within your budget, and plan for what happens if your income stops.

Buying a Car A car can make a man or woman look great, but they can also cost more than your mortgage or apartment bill. Be thrifty. Make your car last as long as possible with minimal repairs, and only buy a new car when you have to. No fun? You will be able to spend this money in the future. For now, stick to the budget, be thrifty, and get the most out of your money.

Get Health Insurance If you have a job with no health insurance, you may try to find a job which offers it. If you are self employed, you definitely need to foot the bill for some health insurance. It's worth it. Lack of health coverage is the prime culprit of individuals and families filing bankruptcy.

Other Insurance You should also get home and auto insurance with the most coverage, and keep them up. While paying the extra money may seem needless, especially if you have a less expensive home or car, it's a good safety net for accidents or theft.

Making Investments They might say they can double your money, but in stocks and other risky investments, promises are worth little. Invest in definite plans which have less risk. You can manage some risk, but putting all your money into some risky stocks is a recipe for disaster.

Joint Debts If your spouse has some bad spending habits, it's time to stop them. You need to avoid owing debts for items you did not even buy. This is easier said than done when you're married, but, though seemingly minor, it can lead to high credit interest rates and eventually bankruptcy.

Allergy - Your Body's Civil War

Allergic reactions, what are they? I can go into the medical explanation of allergies. I can explain the allergic reaction in very scientific terms (after all, I am a trained scientist). Let me illustrate with war and peace.

First of all, some people are born with an amazing gift for acquiring allergies. In terms of war and peace, this means that their immune systems have the ability to go to war for any reason, good or bad. This type of immune system can deploy a very large army very quickly. It can have bitter feuds with an imagined enemy who is really an ally. What is more, this immune system remembers the perceived enemy so well that an even bigger army is deployed every time the "enemy" is encountered.

When this army is out there in the body, eager to fight milk, cats, dogs, pollen, or whatever, it is the presence of the army itself rather than the "enemy" that leads to the next set of events! The presence of the army triggers off a series of chemical reactions in the body leading to the firing of chemical warfare. An overproduction of histamine can result, leading to sore eyes, skin rashes, choked throats, feeling sick, sneezing, coughing, and all the usual misery of an allergic reaction.

Left in a state of war for a long time, maybe with many "enemies", a civil war eventually breaks out, with even more chemical warfare, and the soldiers no longer know why they are fighting, they just fight. The general of this army no longer has control over it and is too tired to anyway. Additionally, the general is too tired to communicate with the other commanders. Anarchy reigns. Invaders enter the country and it is pot luck whether they are seen. If they are seen, the army may be just too tired from all that fighting to ward off this real enemy. This weakens the whole nation, which then continues to produce more soldiers in a state of confusion.

The nation is tired of war but has lived with it for so long now, it doesn't know how to break free. The president, convinced they are the enemy, decides to avoid contact with certain friendly tourists. He instructs all his generals to evade this "enemy" or fight it to the bitter end. But the country is in a state of high alert. People are wary. They are tired. They avoid all of these tourists that the president has announced are the "enemy".

Some time passes and a few people feel unjustly that they had a bad experience with foreign investors. The papers publish this, and the nation, still in a war mood, is whipped into a frenzy. Soon enough, was is fought against foreign investors. They become the new enemy.

Soon almost every previously welcome visitor becomes an enemy.

The country is now almost always at war with somebody, anybody! Resources are depleted, the nation is tired. There seems no way out.

Now imagine a new president taking over, with a new government. The president gathers his generals and explains to them why the enemy is really a friend. The generals go on to reduce the size of their army. The nation rests. Resources are no longer diverted to the war but are spent on education, agriculture, and rebuilding the nation. The nation flourishes.

You can choose to let go of allergies. One of these days, common sense will prevail and those of us with the genes that makes us prone to allergies will not need to live in fear. In the meantime, if you have considered treatment, there is a technique that uses no medication, no fear and no nonsense. I have successfully used EFT on myself for allergies and would recommend it to anyone. I have met so many people who have taken control of their bodies and have freed themselves of them. Like my friend Ronny, who became free from his allergy to milk with EFT.

Why have war when you can relax in peace? Most of you those reading this will prefer to keep their allergies, but that's another story. Choose to empower yourself now. Go and see an EFT practitioner that deals with allergies, or learn EFT for yourself. I'm certainly glad I did!

Breast Cancer Risk Factors

Anything that may increase the chance of developing a disease is considered a risk factor. As research has indicated women with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop breast cancer.

The exact causes for breast cancer are not known. Often doctors cannot explain why one woman may develop breast cancer but another does not. What is known is that bruising, bumping or touching the breast does not cause cancer. Breast cancer is not contagious. It is not "caught" from others.

There have been studies that have revealed some of the risk factors for breast cancer. Among those risk factors are a woman's age, a family or personal history of breast cancer, changes in her breast, changes in her genes and her menstrual history. Other risk factors for breast cancer include a woman's race, if she has had radiation therapy to the chest, and her breast density. Still other factors for breast cancer include taking diethylstilbestrol (DES), her being overweight or obese after menopause, not being physically active, and her alcohol consumption.

Breast cancer is not common in women before menopause. As women age their chances for breast cancer development can increase. Breast cancer occurrence is greater for women over age 60.

The chance of a woman developing breast cancer is greater if her mother, sister or daughter has a history of the disease. If a family member developed breast cancer before the age of 40, the risk is even greater for a woman developing breast cancer. Other relatives having breast cancer, either on her maternal or paternal side of the family, can also place a woman at greater risk for developing breast cancer.

Having a personal history of breast cancer can also increase a woman's risk. If a woman has had breast cancer in one breast the risk of getting breast cancer in the other breast increase.

Changes in a woman's breast can place a woman at risk for breast cancer. Cells in a woman's breast may look abnormal under a microscope. Abnormal cells such as atypical hyperplasia and lobular carcinoma in situ (or LCIS) increase a woman's risk for breast cancer.

Changes in a woman's genes including BRCA1, BRCA2, and others may increase the risk for breast cancer. Tests from family members who have been known to have breast cancer can reveal the presence of specific gene changes in family members. In order to improve the detection of this disease in women who have these changes in their genes health care providers may be able to suggest ways to try to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

A woman's menstrual and reproductive history can place a woman at risk for breast cancer. Women having their first menstrual period before age 12 have a greater risk for developing breast cancer. The risk of breast cancer increase the older a woman is when she had her first child. A woman going through menopause after age 55 places her at greater risk for breast cancer. If a woman has never had children she is at a greater risk of breast cancer. Taking menopausal hormone therapy with estrogen plus progestin after menopause appears to increase risks for breast cancer. Studies have shown no link between miscarriage or abortion and risks for breast cancer.

Race is another risk factor for breast cancer. Caucasian women more often than Latina, African or Asian American women are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Radiation therapy performed to the chest, including the breast, before a woman is age 30 is another known risk factor for breast cancer. Studies indicate the younger the age of a woman when she received radiation treatment the higher the risk for breast cancer in later life.

A woman's breast tissue is either fatty or dense. Placing them at a higher risk of breast cancer are older women whose mammograms, or breast x-rays, reveal more dense tissue.

Diethylstilbestrol, also known as DES, was given to some pregnant women in the United States during the 1940's until 1971. This is no longer given to pregnant women. Taking DES during pregnancy may slightly increase the risk for breast cancer. The possible effects on the daughters of women who were given DES while pregnant are still being studied.

A woman being overweight or obese after menopause can increase a woman's risk for developing breast cancer. Studies have indicated that after menopause the risk increases for women who are overweight.

A physically inactive lifestyle may contribute to risks for breast cancer. If a woman is active it can prevent weight gain and obesity and therefore reduce chances for breast cancer.

Drinking alcohol increases risks for breast cancer. Studies indicate the more alcohol a woman drinks her risk for breast cancer increase.

Researchers are currently studying other possible risk factors for breast cancer. Currently being studied are the effect of diet, genetics, physical activity, and certain environmental substances increasing the risks for breast cancer.

Avoiding known risk factors for breast cancer can help women protect themselves against breast cancer. Risk factors for breast cancer such as family history cannot be avoided. These should be discussed with her doctor.

Most women who have known risk factors do not get breast cancer. Many women with breast cancer do not have a family history of the disease. Most women with breast cancer have no clear sign for risk factors other than growing older.

If a woman thinks she is at risk for breast cancer she should discuss her concern with her doctor. Her doctor may be able to suggest ways she can reduce her risk. At risk or not, a woman should plan scheduled checkups with her health care provider. Prevention is the best cure.

Packing Ideas and Tips For Traveling

Knowing how to pack a suitcase is essential to being a good traveler. Ever wonder how to pack light and still stay in style, my suggestion is to pick a basic color that you enjoy wearing and then add two other accessory colors and when you do this it will look and feel like you have several different outfits, for the males it is easy just a different shirt or tie and they are set.

The first think you want to do is start making a list of all the different items you will need for your trip, mentally take a note of all the activities and places you will be visiting and what you will be doing there so that you can gather all the items you will need for them. Pack a couple of plastic coat hangers in your bag, it seems like they never have enough hangers in the hotel rooms, if you pack plastic ones they weight almost nothing and are very handy to have.

When packing liquids remember they can expand under pressure, so never fill to the top and/or take some out if it is a new container. Toiletries should be as small as possible, and packed in sealable plastic bags for protection against spillage.

Pack each outfit in its own large re-sealable plastic bag, the rolling method works well for this packing style. If you have bulky items like for skiing use space bags that suck out all the air, you can fit so much more in your suitcase. The only word of caution here is that you want your suitcase to be packed firm so the contents won't shift and also you want to keep in mind to pack so your clothes will unpack wrinkle free.

Guard against lost luggage woes by packing your plastic bag(s) of toiletries in your carry-on bag, along with your most valuable items, and one change of clothes. Put all of your camera and computer items together in one carry-on bag, it will be easier during inspection, and then easier to put it all back together again after inspection.

Be vigilant in removing metal and in packing your carry-on. You also need to be aware of metal and batteries etc in you checked luggage, as that sometimes sets off an inspection alarm and may delay your luggage, it is easier to carry these items in your carry on so they can inspect them during your personal check in, rather than delay your checked in luggage.

No matter what type of bag you are packing, you will want to avoid spilling any liquids on your clothes or equipment and when you arrive at your destination unpack your bags as soon as possible after you get into your hotel room.

A New Game With Racquets: Squash

If you've ever seen or played squash before, you'll know that it is similar to playing tennis as it involves hitting a ball with a racquet in a racquetball court. The exciting thing about squash for beginners is that they can practice the game alone in a court. This way, they can perfect their forehand and their backhand strokes before playing in a singles or a doubles game.

Playing squash requires a racket and a ball. There are three types of balls in squash with varying speeds and the rate of the bounce.

The first, the yellow dot ball, is the most commonly used ball when playing squash. It has the fastest speed but the lowest bounce. Most beginners start on a blue dot ball but quickly move on the yellow dot once they get a hand of the game.

For children learning how to play squash, there is a fairly larger ball they can begin with. This ball is easier to hit so they can practice their strokes on it better than when using the smaller balls.

There are also different types of racquets with varying designs. Weight and composition play a part in creating a racquet and it is best to personally check out which model you feel most comfortable with before buying. A lot of squash clubs have demo racquets which allow you to get the feel of it.

If you are new to squash, then squash lessons are a good way to up your game. There you will learn how to perform the strokes properly and the art of control. You might also want to get into an exercise routine as squash can be demanding physically.

Squash is a social game and you'll be sure to meet many a squash player from different countries on the court. This is because squash is played multi-nationally.

Joining a squash club can also be a great way to improving your game. There are all kinds of levels from beginners to experts and you will not have a hard time finding an appropriate partner to get the game on.

Footprints of Great Leaders: Succession

Great leaders leave indelible footprints in the passage of time, often spanning generations. Unmistakable evidence, markers of where they have been.

Regardless of when, and where they walk, great men and women leave their footprints, revealing with clarity their spirit, courage and the direction they were going, along with encouragement to follow in their footsteps.

Succession is an inevitable part of any leadership role, since none of us live for ever, or fulfill our roles as leaders forever. The greatest difficulties occur however when succession discussions and planning take place at, or after the departure of a leader, regardless of whether that departure is voluntary or otherwise.

In ideally structured organizational environments, succession planning begins with the appointment of a new leader to their role, at the front end of their tenure, not as the last thing they do. Some leaders have been known to state that their mission to find a successor began the day they assumed their new role.

Great leaders are generationally focused and understand that their leadership role is akin to taking hold of the baton in a relay race, and their role is to carry that baton safely and efficiently right to the hands of the next runner. They understand that their leadership is a privilege, not a right: an honour, not a possession.

Successful leaders understand that leadership is most effective and productive when it is given to, not taken by the leader. Inevitably, leadership that is taken by force or by unethical means is doomed to failure. History records the accounts of leaders who seized power and held onto it whatever the cost, and their ultimate demise where they were rarely missed. The old adage that he who lives by the sword dies by the sword rings true for leaders in any role.

Successful men and women know that their tenure as a leader is an investment in the future of their people, team or business: that they are custodians of the present, for the benefit of their successors in the future. They know that their mission is to use their knowledge, experience and perhaps most of all their good judgment to execute their leadership in the best interests of their followers and successors.

Great leaders in this position are normally selfless, caring more for their families, people and their team more than themselves.

Without question they will be secure in their role, able to devote their full energy to the task at hand, knowing that their team, their subordinates, their peers are watching their back and supporting them in all they do. These leaders are already planning, openly, transparently and confidently with the support of those around them, who will succeed them.

Not so the insecure leader, who is constantly distracted and drained of creative and productive energy merely trying to retain their position and are thus unable to fulfill their role effectively.

Ultimately, the strengths of a great leader lie in their foresight and security in who they are, where they are going and what they do. And their efforts to identify and mentor their successors.

The footprints of great leaders, who spanned generations and who have previously travelled our paths will often reveal simply, yet profoundly, the steps we should take to ensure our success:

The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers. Ralph Nader.

How to Have a Profitable Product Launch

To be able to have a profitable product launching, make sure that you would be finding out what the needs and requirements of your client are.

1. You could email your subscriber and then ask them what they would be needing to learn and know more about. You could also write to them and tell them that you would be or are working on a product, which would be able to meet their needs.

2. Create what the client base you have would need. This would probably be the hardest part - just sitting down and trying to create. The product would need to be complete, and make sure that you would be doing what you said on your sales letter. Make sure that you would not be cheating on the creation of your product, as doing so would only be working to your disadvantage in the long run.

3. Try sending out pre-launch email messages. You could tell your clients to keep an eye on your company's promotions.

4. You could also send out some invitations for a joint venture to the other Internet marketers that have subscriber lists, which have similar demographics to the list that you have.

5. Test your products, merchant services, as well as everything on your business website. Ask for feedback and suggestions from subscribers to improve or maintain the services that you are offering.

6. Create a killer sales page, as any good product could flop without a good sales page.

7. Send an email to everyone who is on your list to let them now that the product is now available.

The Benefits of Learning to Speed Skate

Do you know what speed skating is? No matter how its name sounds, this is a type of sport whose goal is to cover a certain distance going as fast as possible. I probably must add that this is awesome exercise as well. There are different types of speed skating like long track and short track speed skate, inline speed skate and quad speed skate. Speed skate is very popular these days. Speed skating had even been held as a competition in the Winter Olympic Games. Speed skating was first developed as a sport in the Netherlands. There, speed skating is still a very popular and desired sport.

During the 90's, speed skating was strongly influenced by the appearance of "clap skates." Clap skates differ from the other ice skates in the blade attached to the boot by a hinge but not fixed to the whole boot. What was the difference between the regular speed skates and clap skates? Clap skates improved skating so that it became quite faster. Clap skates remain in contact with the ice longer than the other skates. This type of skates contributed to the success of speed skating.

Clap skates use long and thin blades to stand on. This has proved to be very important for speed skating. These long blades are very crucial for speed skating but it is not completely necessary for the other type of ice-skating. Clap skate blades are long from 12 to 18 inches. They are usually 1 mm thin. Of course, different blades have different sizes according to the body size and other factors. For example, professional skaters usually use blades around 17 inches in length. Some people while they are ice-skating, use inline or quad roller skates. According to the season, skaters choose between inline and ice speed skate.

Now, we should talk about the prices. A pair of quad speed skates will cost you about $200.00, if you buy them at the skating rink. A pair of inline speed skates will cost you about $70.00, which is about $35 for each skate. Short track speed skates will cost you between $200-400.00. This type of skates you may use for indoor rinks. Long track speed skates are cheaper and you will pay for them between $200.00 -$300.00. I must warn you that if you are seeking for ice speed skate of good quality you may have to pay much more. High-quality speed skates tend to be more expensive.

Ice speed skates can be found at a discount. There you may pay less if you are not willing to pay much money for speed skates. On an in-rink selling off you may find speed skates for 25-50% of the total price. It is important to know that buying speed skated in the rink will cost you much money. If you cannot afford to pay much money, you will have to search for speed skates that are ahead of time.

Electric Car Modification Kit - Fast and Easy Way to Convert Your Car to Run on Electricity

When the global crude oil prices reached its peak at $150 per barrel, local gasoline prices soared to a historical level. Many car owners were unable to cope with the sudden hike on their energy expense bill. Those that could not afford have to abandon their vehicle at home and use the public transportation. Others have decided to find an alternative power source for their cars. One cheaper solution to fossil fuel for our automobile is electricity. Unfortunately, without the economy of scale, an electric vehicle (EV) is still quite expensive. The second best option is to convert an existing gasoline driven car to run on electricity.

The fastest way to retrofit a car into EV is via an electric car modification kit. Most kits will have all the parts and components needed for a Do It Yourself (DIY) project. In an electric conversion project, the objective is to remove the internal combustion engine and replace it with an electric motor. To transfer torque, the motor is connected to the existing transmission unit.

The new power system for an EV is quite simple. To power the motor, a series of deep cycle batteries are used. To control the speed of the motor, we will use a variable resistor controller and it will act as the accelerator paddle. All the components will then be linked to a central management unit.

All these parts can be purchased off the shelves of any hardware store. The challenge is to the find the right unit for your EV power system. By using an electric car modification kit, all the components are included. All you have to do is follow the instructions and start the retrofitting.

The Top Three Ways to Get Your Family History Started - No 1 - Your Most Interesting Ancestor

To get your family history started, write something and show it to other family members. Their reaction will keep the effort going.

What are good ways to get your family history started?

- Write about your most interesting ancestor

- Do a family tree

- Write a timeline chronology of a family

This article discusses, "Write about your most interesting ancestor". My next articles cover, "Do a family tree" and "Write a timeline chronology".

Assumptions: In these articles, I assume that the final goal is an online ancestral family history using a blog platform.

When starting, recognize that it is your older relatives who are more likely to be interested - and therefore more likely to contribute - whether you yourself are younger or one of the older family members. Older family members have old stories, memories and family hand-me-downs to share. Remember that some seniors will be hesitant about computers, using the Internet and technology in general. Sometimes sharing the work load between the younger and older generation is a good idea.

Your Most Interesting Ancestor

To start, pick one person to write about. It might be a father, a mother, a grandparent or a favorite aunt or uncle. Be sure to write a biography about a person that you feel strongly about - it will help make your writing appealing.

In my personal family history, it was the "stories" about ancestors that were the most read and appreciated. Stories about what an ancestor said or did in a certain situation help define that person for descendants who may never have known that person. Stories show the humanity of the person.

Also, your personal opinions and the opinions of others about the person help make a biographical sketch interesting. Writing about an ancestor who has passed on has as advantage - there is less chance that someone's feelings might be hurt!

One good starting point is to make a list of why the ancestor you select is interesting - your list will help the organization of your writing.

Another way to help the organization of your writing is to do a one-page chronology of the significant events by date in the person's life.

Other helpful questions that you can ask yourself include: - What is unique about this person? - How did this person influence others? - By whom or what was this person influenced? - What "formed" this person?

The more you can get others to comment and even ask questions, the better. Often, non-family people have interesting input.

A few other helpful writing check points: - First, describe the person and then give examples to prove your description - Then try turning it around by presenting the examples first and then write your description - Use adjectives - what adjectives best describe the person? - Write fast when you are inspired and go back and fix it later - What challenges did this person face and overcome? - Try describing the person's appearance, habits, quirks, or how he or she talked - When struggling with wording, read it aloud - this often helps

Will Robotic Race Trucks Take Over Pike's Peak, NASCAR, and Formula One - One Day?

Most of us have heard about the robotic vehicles racing through the desert without any people in them. Let me refresh your memory; there were several events sponsored by DARPA where the smartest geeks in research university level robotics, and the automotive industry got together to see which team is the greatest innovator in creating robotic cars that drive themselves.

Now, one robotics research group is designing a robotic racing truck, which will compete in the upcoming Pikes Peak Race to the top of the mountain in Colorado Springs. In other words, it will be competing against time with other vehicles that are being raced by humans. Now racing up to the top of the mountain will not be easy for a robot and one mistake - it goes off the cliff.

Of course, whether it succeeds or fails it will definitely bring a good amount of public relations to the annual Pikes Peaks Race in Colorado Springs. Indeed, this brings up another interesting question, what if it wins? What if we have finally developed a robotic vehicle that is better than a human? In the future, there will be robotic unmanned aerial vehicles like those over Iraq and Afghanistan, which will engage enemy fighter pilots and shoot them down.

So, it stands to reason that eventually, as the technology advances and the processing speeds increase, there will be vehicles that can compete with the top NASCAR drivers, and the top Formula One drivers. They will carefully pick when the pass, based on percentages of potential success, know when to take risks, and when to back off.

Best of all or worst of all if you happen to be a driver making a good living off of racing vehicles, each one of these artificially intelligent robotic race cars will be learning as they go. And they won't be learning individually, each racecar in each race will learn something and download what they've learned to the other cars, of similar types, where ever they are and whatever races they are in.

Which means someone who has the racecar experience of 20 years, and thousands of races, will be competing with artificially intelligent racecar machines, which have accumulated, that much knowledge about racing and experience in only a six months to one year. Now that's scary stuff. Some people cringe at this future, others are accepting it as a challenge, and whether you like it or not that is the direction this technology is moving.

In the future, we all might be participating with and competing against machines and that will determine the best of breed. Please think on this, and e-mail me if you think you can handle it?
